The Greek government spokesperson stated that Greece has no involvement in the Strait of Hormuz amid tensions in the Middle East, clarifying the country's participation in Operation Shields located in the Red Sea.
The Greek government spokesperson confirmed that there is no issue of Greece's involvement in the Strait of Hormuz during a recent briefing for political journalists regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The spokesperson emphasized Greece's participation in Operation Shields, which is specifically defined to take place in the Red Sea, ensuring that the country is not involved in any military actions related to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical area historically known for geopolitical tensions.
Additionally, the spokesperson, Mr. Marinakis, addressed inquiries regarding recent revelations by Mega TV concerning state surveillance. He noted that the stateβs involvement in the situation had already been evaluated and resolved at the highest judicial level, referring to a decision by the Supreme Court which stated that there was no accountability for any state official in the matter. This aspect of governance and judicial responsibility highlights the importance of transparency and legal processes in responding to allegations against public officials.
Moreover, Mr. Marinakis clarified that the individuals implicated, including Mr. Dillian and four others, have been referred to trial in the Athens misdemeanor court. They were initially convicted, and an appeal has been filed. He stressed that it is not the role of himself or any other government officials to conduct trials in public forums, such as political briefings or television channels, suggesting a commitment to uphold the integrity of judicial proceedings while addressing sensitive political issues.
