Police investigate possible abuse against three minors in Vilnius and Ukmergė districts

Lithuanian police are investigating allegations of domestic abuse involving three minors in Vilnius and Ukmergė.

On Monday, the Vilnius District Police reported that a 1994-born man has been accused of domestic violence against two minors born in 2019 and 2021 at his home in the Vilnius district. This came after authorities received a report of the alleged violence. In a separate incident on the same day, a 1995-born man reportedly caused physical pain to a minor born in 2015 in the stairwell of an apartment building in the Ukmergė district.

The police have initiated pre-trial investigations into both cases, focusing on charges related to inflicting physical pain or causing minor health impairments to the minors involved or cruelly treating the victims. Lithuanian law classifies individuals under the age of 14 as minors, thus providing them legal protection against abuse and violence.

These incidents have raised concerns about child safety in the region, prompting authorities to increase vigilance regarding domestic abuse cases involving minors. Police are expected to provide further updates as investigations progress, reflecting the seriousness with which they are addressing these allegations, in light of ongoing efforts to combat domestic violence in Lithuania.
