Now be careful: Changes to Kela benefits schedule
Due to the Easter holidays, changes will occur in Kela's customer service and the timelines for applying for and receiving benefits.
Kela, Finland's social insurance institution, announced that due to the upcoming Easter holidays, there will be significant changes to the customer service timings as well as the schedules for applying for and receiving benefits. Applicants for social assistance must submit their applications and relevant attachments by March 20th, which is the last working day before the holiday weekend, in order to receive their payments in time for Easter. Kela is urging its customers to pay close attention to these deadlines to avoid delays in receiving financial support.
Additionally, the timelines for reporting unemployment periods and the payment dates for unemployment benefits have also been moved forward. This change is aimed at ensuring that individuals receiving unemployment benefits will still receive their compensation timely, despite the holiday interruptions. Kela advises recipients to check the reporting dates on the OmaKela platform or through the official reporting forms to ensure compliance with the new schedules.
The changes require users to submit their reports promptly, especially if their unemployment period ends during the Easter holiday. For those with unemployment periods ending between March 31 and April 1, reports can be filed until March 31, with payments processed by April 2. Other deadlines fall on April 1 and April 2 for corresponding payment dates. This proactive adjustment by Kela highlights the institution's commitment to ensuring that support continues to flow to those in need during holiday interruptions, but it also places an onus on beneficiaries to stay informed about the new deadlines.
