Supreme Court strict in Shubhendu Adhikari case, asked High Court to decide soon
The Supreme Court of India has directed the Calcutta High Court to expedite its decision related to the attack on opposition leader Shubhendu Adhikari's convoy.
The Supreme Court of India recently addressed a petition related to the delayed proceedings in the Calcutta High Court concerning the attack on Shubhendu Adhikari's convoy, an opposition leader from West Bengal. The state government highlighted the sluggish pace of the hearing and requested the Supreme Court to intervene. Citing that the delay is affecting the investigation and legal processes, the Supreme Court instructed the High Court to hasten the hearing and come to a swift conclusion on the matter.
This legal battle revolves around an attack that took place on Shubhendu Adhikari's convoy, which has attracted significant public and political scrutiny. The lower court is currently conducting proceedings led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the Calcutta High Court has previously denied a request to stay these proceedings. The West Bengal government, led by the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has expressed concerns that prolonged delays in court are hampering justice and the timely handling of serious allegations.
During the Supreme Court session, the West Bengal government's legal representative, Kalyan Banerjee, addressed the court, questioning the enforcement and implications of the legal actions surrounding the case. The court's firm stance indicates its prioritization of timely justice in politically sensitive matters and reflects its awareness of the potential impacts of such delays on public order and political dynamics in the region.
