Flood in the Coast: 43 Homesteads Submerged, Water Level Still Rising
In Lithuania, flooding has affected 43 homesteads due to rising water levels exacerbated by ice jams in the area.
Flooding in the Šilutė district of Lithuania has submerged 43 homesteads as water levels continue to rise, largely due to ice jams near Uostadvaris. Andrius Jurkus, the head of the local administration, has stated that while residents are currently safe and have not requested assistance, preparations are in place should the situation worsen. The Kuršiu Marias still bears a thick ice layer, with some areas reaching up to 30 centimeters, which contributes to the ongoing rise in water levels until the ice jams begin to melt and flow away.
Daiva Bliūdžiuvienė, the head of the Priekulė area, reported that the situation remains under control for now, with only one unpassable gravel road due to flooding. She noted some flooded meadows and fields, but overall, the situation is manageable and not as severe as in previous years. The local residents are still able to navigate alternative routes, indicating a level of preparedness and resilience in dealing with the flooding.
Reports from the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service indicate that water levels in the Minija River near Priekule are being monitored, as they have experienced sharp drops elsewhere, such as between Kartena and Veiviržė. The situation remains dynamic, and local officials are staying vigilant as conditions could change with the ongoing weather patterns affecting the region.
