Finnish bowler Santtu Tahvanainen placed second in the PBA Illinois Classic, losing to Anthony Simonsen despite scoring an impressive 279 points.
Santtu Tahvanainen, a top Finnish bowler, showcased an exceptional performance by reaching the finals of the PBA Illinois Classic on Sunday. He scored 279 points in the final match, a score typically sufficient for victory; however, his opponent, Anthony Simonsen, surpassed him with a near-perfect score of 290. Simonsen's victory was marked by an impressive streak of 11 consecutive strikes, earning him a prize of over €26,000, while Tahvanainen took home just under €16,000 for his runner-up finish.
Tahvanainen's journey to the finals included a remarkable semifinal win against EJ Tackett, the world’s top-ranked bowler at the time, where he scored 248 against Tackett's 185, further cementing his reputation in the professional bowling circuit. This event marked an important milestone for Tahvanainen, who previously claimed his first PBA tournament victory at the same Illinois Classic last year, highlighting his growing prowess on this competitive stage.
The year has started exceptionally well for Tahvanainen, as he earlier won the Ballmaster Open in Helsinki in January. His consistent performance in both domestic and international competitions suggests a promising future in professional bowling, as he continues to rise in the ranks and challenge some of the best bowlers in the world.
