Up to 8000 PLN for homeowners. Soon grants for micro-retention will start

A new program in Poland aims to provide grants to homeowners for investments that increase water retention on their properties, addressing local water resource protection and flood prevention.

The Polish government has introduced a new program designed to support investments aimed at increasing water retention around single-family homes. This initiative, part of a broader strategy to enhance local water resource management, is expected to assist homeowners in implementing solutions that capture rainwater on their properties, reduce the impacts of drought, and mitigate local flooding issues. By providing financial assistance, the program aims to encourage sustainable practices among residents and foster a culture of proactive water management.

Under the Micro-retention initiative, homeowners will be eligible for grants to cover various costs associated with the construction and installation of systems that collect and store rainwater. Eligible activities include purchasing and installing equipment for collecting rainwater from impermeable surfaces such as roofs and driveways, constructing sealed storage tanks with a minimum capacity of 2m³, and implementing ground retention techniques such as drainage, infiltration wells, and open tanks. These measures not only enhance water conservation but also empower homeowners to make better use of stormwater resources on-site.

The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW), which oversees the program, emphasizes the importance of these initiatives for environmental sustainability and local community resilience. By enabling homeowners to retain and utilize rainwater effectively, the program aims to reduce pressure on local water sources and decrease the likelihood of flooding. This grant initiative presents an opportunity to foster community engagement in water conservation efforts, ultimately contributing to enhanced environmental stewardship at the local level.
