Trains are running again at Oslo Central Station - still expect delays
Train services have resumed at Oslo S, but delays and cancellations persist due to earlier disruptions caused by a fault in the system.
Train operations at Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) in Norway have resumed as of 08:12 AM, according to reports from Bane Nor. However, travelers are still warned to expect significant delays and cancellations, with 154 incidents reported in the traffic data at 08:13. The earlier disruption was due to a complete stoppage in train services caused by an electrical fault, which Bane Nor is currently addressing. Anna Langhammer, Bane Nor's press spokesperson, indicated that the fault involves a massive control cabinet with approximately 160,000 relay contacts, and rectifying this issue may take some time.
Due to the disruptions, train services were suspended in a loop around Oslo S, significantly impacting the commuter network. Vy, the main train operator, has had to turn trains back at various points, including Ski, Skøyen, Lillestrøm, and Grefsen, leading to inconvenience for passengers. In response to the service interruptions, Bane Nor has arranged for alternative bus services to facilitate transport to and from Oslo S, with 90 buses ordered and already in operation several routes, including from Ski and Skøyen to the city center.
This incident highlights the vulnerabilities in urban rail systems and the ripple effects that technical failures can have on commuter services. As the situation remains fluid, Bane Nor is working diligently to restore normal operations while providing contingency options for affected passengers. Travelers are advised to stay updated on service announcements as the network recovers from this technical challenge.
