Cars set on fire near a store in Kaunas

Two cars were set on fire near a store in Kaunas, causing an estimated loss of €5,000.

In the early hours of the morning, around 0:35 AM, an unidentified individual set fire to two vehicles, a 2007 Ford Mondeo and a 2007 Ford S-Max, parked near a store on Panerių Street in Vilijampolė, Kaunas. Both cars suffered significant interior damage, leading to an estimated total loss of around €5,000. The incident was reported to the police, who stated they are investigating the case as a property damage crime committed in a publicly dangerous manner.

The Kaunas Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene following reports of the fire, where they discovered both vehicles engulfed in flames. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, but not before the interiors of both cars were heavily damaged. The Ford Mondeo's interior was completely burned, while the Ford S-Max suffered damage to its rear seat, roof, and interior due to the fire and smoke. Emergency responders also disconnected the batteries of both vehicles to prevent any further hazards.

This incident raises concerns about public safety and the potential for similar arson cases in the area. Following a recent major fire incident in Vilnius, authorities have been urging calm among citizens, assuring them that there are no indications of potential sabotage or widespread criminal activities at this time. However, the police's ongoing investigation into this particular case aims to identify the perpetrator and prevent future occurrences of such distressing acts.
