This weekend, President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) enacted an ordinance to create a new judicial body, the economic and financial criminal court. This court is specifically designed to handle cases of corruption, misappropriation of public funds, and money laundering. It will be complemented by a public prosecutor's office, addressing a significant issue where many cases forwarded by control services or intelligence agencies have not been successfully prosecuted due to a lack of judicial expertise in financial matters.

In the latest Transparency International report, the DRC ranks 163rd out of 183 nations on the corruption perception index (CPI).
