Breaking: The People Power Party excludes incumbent Governor Kim Young-hwan from candidacy... "Starting point for renewal"
The People Power Party has decided to exclude incumbent Governor Kim Young-hwan from its candidate list, marking him as the first incumbent officially cut from the party's candidacy process.
On October 16, the People Power Party's candidate management committee announced that incumbent Chungbuk Governor Kim Young-hwan has been excluded from the list of candidates for the upcoming elections. This decision positions him as the first incumbent governor to be cut from the party's candidacy. The committee chair, Lee Jung-hyun, clarified that this action is not merely a personal evaluation but rather a necessary step towards political change, asserting that the party must show its commitment to innovative and transformative politics instead of remaining stagnant.
Lee emphasized that this decision goes beyond a logistical adjustment in the candidacy process; it is a decisive move towards the renewal and rebirth of the People Power Party. He expressed hope that this change will signal a fresh start for the party, particularly stemming from the decision made in Chungbuk. The party has also announced that it will accept additional candidacy applications for the Chungbuk governor position, with submissions open for one day on October 17 if any new candidates come forward.
Prior to the announcement of Kim's cut-off, four candidates, including Kim and former key figures such as Yun Gap-geun, former chief prosecutor of Daegu High Prosecutors' Office, and Yun Hee-keun, former police chief, had submitted their candidacies for consideration. This step by the People Power Party could indicate a significant shift in its political strategy as it seeks to rejuvenate its image and address the public's demand for change and innovation within its ranks.
