Suspect of Attempting to Assault 9-Year-Old Girl Arrested in Santarém
A man suspected of attempting to sexually assault a 9-year-old girl has been arrested in Santarém, Brazil, after fleeing the scene of the crime.
In Santarém, located in western Pará, a 9-year-old girl became the victim of an attempted sexual assault by her stepfather, leading to his arrest on Sunday. The incident occurred in the Área Verde neighborhood during the early hours, and after the attempt, the suspect fled. Authorities were quick to respond, and he was found hours later at a bus stop on October 13th street.
Both the 9-year-old girl and her 16-year-old sister reported the incident to the police, prompting a swift investigation. The girls were moved to a shelter as a precaution while their mother was interviewed by police to gather more context on the situation. The suspect was subsequently taken to the Specialized Delegate for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (Deaca), where the case was officially recorded by delegate William Richer.
