Raik: there is a danger that the USA is no longer as interested in Ukraine

Kristi Raik warns that the USA's renewed focus on its conflict with Iran may lead to diminished interest and support for Ukraine, making European backing increasingly vital.

In a recent discussion on the ETV program "Ukraina stuudio," Kristi Raik, the director of the International Centre for Defence and Security in Estonia, expressed concern over the United States' shifting attention towards the Iran conflict. She stated that this change could result in a decrease in American interest in the ongoing war in Ukraine. As the US becomes more preoccupied with its own issues, the importance of European support for Ukraine strengthens, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts to assist the embattled nation.

Raik criticized the US's recent decision to ease sanctions on Russian oil for a period of 30 days, calling the rationale behind this move confusing and unjustifiable. According to her, the easing of these sanctions does not seem to provide any direct benefit to the US, raising questions about the motivation behind such a decision. While the intention may have been to lower fuel prices, analysts do not anticipate any significant impact on prices as a result of this policy shift.

The broader implications of the US's actions also merit attention, as the easing of sanctions could indirectly benefit Russia, while the nation is estimated to gain even more from the effects of its conflict with Iran. This situation highlights the complex dynamics at play and the potential financial ramifications, with assessments indicating that Russia could earn approximately $150 million per day. Therefore, as geopolitical tensions escalate, the need for a united European front in support of Ukraine becomes even more pressing.
