Brazil finishes Winter Paralympic Games in 22nd place, best result in history
Brazil achieved its best historical result at the Winter Paralympic Games by securing 22nd place and winning its first-ever medal.
Brazil concluded the Winter Paralympic Games on Sunday (15) with a remarkable performance, ranking 22nd overall and entering the medal table for the first time thanks to a silver medal earned by Cristian Ribera in cross-country skiing. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Brazil, as it showcases the nation's growing presence and competitiveness in winter sports.
In addition to the Paralympic success, Brazil also experienced a historic run in the Winter Olympic Games earlier this year, where Lucas Pinheiro Braathen secured a gold medal. Together, these achievements mean that Brazil now boasts medals across all formats of both the Olympic and Paralympic Games - a testament to the development of sports within the country and the hard work of its athletes.
The overall medal tally saw China leading with 44 medals, followed by the United States with 24, and Russia with 12. Italy, the host country for the Games, finished fourth with a total of 16 medals. Ribera, who hails from Cerejeiras in Rondônia and grew up in Jundiaí, São Paulo, entered the Milan-Cortina Games as a favorite and lived up to expectations, confirming his status as a top athlete in the sport of Paralympic cross-country skiing.
