Syrian Official to Al Jazeera: No Displacement from Lebanon and These are the Entry Conditions

A Syrian official denied reports of Lebanese displacement to Syria amid the current war, stating that the entry of Lebanese people is part of normal daily traffic between the two countries.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Mazen Aloush, the Director of Relations at Syria's General Authority for Ports and Customs, refuted claims that there is a flow of Lebanese refugees into Syria due to the ongoing conflict. He emphasized that the movement between Lebanon and Syria constitutes regular daily crossings, estimating that around 500 Lebanese citizens enter Syria each day for various reasons, including familial, tourist, or professional visits.

Aloush further detailed that the crossing between the two nations continues routinely, adhering to established organizational procedures. These procedures ensure the smooth handling of travelers while also providing the necessary facilitation for those crossing the border. His comments were aimed at clarifying the situation regarding Lebanese entry into Syria amidst concerns about instability in the region.

Regarding the conditions for Lebanese citizens wishing to enter Syria, Aloush specified that several regulations are in place. Entry is permitted for individuals who possess a valid residency in Syria, are married to a Syrian national, or are children of Syrian mothers. Moreover, property ownership registered in Syria also allows for entry, reflecting Syria's complex border dynamics and the personal ties that influence cross-border movement.
