Three taken to the emergency room from Hellisheiði after two collisions

Three individuals were transported to the emergency room following two separate traffic accidents on Hellisheiði amidst poor weather conditions.

Three people were taken to the emergency department after two traffic accidents occurred on Hellisheiði during difficult driving conditions. The accidents took place earlier in the day when visibility was severely limited due to bad weather. According to Magnús Ragnarsson, a chief superintendent at the South Iceland Police, the incidents involved two separate collisions occurring in close proximity to one another, highlighting the hazards posed by the severe conditions on the mountain pass.

The authorities had to temporarily close the road following the accidents to ensure safety and recover vehicles that had skidded off the road. The weather on Hellisheiði remains extremely poor, with conditions expected to worsen. Magnús has strongly advised against travel in the area, emphasizing the need for caution and the likelihood of more accidents if conditions do not improve. He also noted that multiple vehicles were reported to have gone off the road due to the treacherous circumstances.

In a related note, traffic was also closed on Mosfellsheiði after a bus carrying twelve passengers slid off the road. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the bus passengers. These incidents underscore the importance of heeding weather warnings and exercising caution while driving in adverse conditions to prevent further accidents and ensure public safety.
