Abia APC threatens sanctions over Ogah’s support for Labour Party
The Abia State chapter of the APC has issued a threat of sanctions against Uche Ogah for his support of the Labour Party, which the party describes as irresponsible.
Tensions have escalated within the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after Uche Ogah, a former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, made controversial comments at a Labour Party event. Ogah’s remarks included his intention to support the Labour Party in the upcoming 2027 governorship election, which did not sit well with the APC. The party's leaders characterized these statements as "reckless and irresponsible," calling into question Ogah's loyalty to the APC.
In response to Ogah's comments, the Abia APC is threatening disciplinary action against him, asserting that his views do not reflect the party's ideals or aspirations. Uche Aguoru, the party's Publicity Secretary, emphasized that Ogah's statements are considered unacceptable conduct for a party member. This internal conflict has drawn attention to the divisions within the Abia APC and highlights the existing tensions as the party gears up for the upcoming elections.
Ogah and his Abia Rejoice Movement have reacted by claiming that his comments were misinterpreted, indicating a possible rift not only in the local party structure but also among the party's membership base. This incident raises significant questions regarding party discipline and unity as they prepare for a competitive political landscape ahead, especially with the Labour Party gaining ground in the region.
