Pakistan reported attacking military targets in Afghanistan

Pakistan has announced that its forces have struck military targets and 'terrorist hideouts' in southern Afghanistan.

On Sunday, Pakistan revealed that its military has conducted strikes against military targets and alleged terrorist hideouts in southern Afghanistan. Security sources indicated that these strikes effectively destroyed technical support for the armed forces and a supply depot in Kandahar. Additionally, another strike targeted a tunnel said to be used by both the Afghan Taliban regime and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a separate group operating in Pakistan which has been blamed for a series of recent attacks within the country.

The Afghan government responded to these claims by stating that the strikes caused damage to a drug rehabilitation center and an empty container in Kandahar, asserting that the locations targeted were not where Pakistan claimed to have conducted its strikes. This denial from Afghanistan adds a layer of complexity to the already tense relations between the two nations, with both sides disputing the impact of the military actions.

The recent escalation has resulted in casualties, with Pakistan reporting four deaths following retaliatory strikes on Bajaur within Pakistan after the attacks in Afghanistan. Both countries have denied targeting civilian locations; however, verifying the authenticity of these claims poses significant challenges due to the difficult access to the affected areas. This incident highlights the ongoing conflict and the broader implications of cross-border militancy in the region.
