A drunken driver was arrested after her car went off the road and crashed into a school in Belo Horizonte.
A 36-year-old woman was arrested in Belo Horizonte after driving her car off the road, causing it to crash into the Municipal School of Early Childhood Education Jardim Montanhês. The incident took place on Saturday night when the car veered off Rua Tomaz Brandão, which is located at a higher level than the school. When emergency services arrived, the driver, along with a 49-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man who were in the vehicle, had already been pulled from the wreckage by witnesses and were conscious.
The firefighters assessed the scene for risks of explosion and fire prior to isolating the area, as they requested assistance from the local authorities to use a crane for removing the vehicle. The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) was also dispatched to the site. According to the Military Police, the driver sustained a head injury in the crash but declined medical assistance at the scene. Instead, she was taken to a police station for questioning regarding the incident.
This incident underscores the dangers of driving under the influence, as it not only posed a potential threat to the occupants of the vehicle but also endangered children and staff within the school. The quick actions of witnesses prevented what could have been a more serious situation, highlighting the importance of community vigilance in emergency scenarios.
