LDz Cargo will auction dozens of freight cars located in Ukraine in the second half of March

The Latvian railway company LDz Cargo is set to auction 65 used freight cars located in Ukraine, with bidding starting on March 23.

Latvian railway company Latvijas dzelzceļš's subsidiary LDz Cargo will hold an electronic auction for 65 used freight cars situated in Ukraine later this month. The auction is scheduled to take place from March 23, 10:00 AM to March 24, 12:00 PM, through the platform auctioncargo.ldz.lv. The freight cars will be sold in seven lots, with varying starting prices, the highest being €161,000 for 23 cars, and the lowest starting at €6,320 for two cars.

This auction represents a significant financial move for LDz Cargo, whose turnover dropped to €77.111 million last year, showing a decrease of 23.2% compared to 2024. The company reported a loss of €5.348 million last year in contrast to a profit in the previous year, indicating ongoing financial challenges. The decision to auction these cars, despite the challenging market conditions, could be a strategy to recover some losses and generate revenue by liquidating unused assets from Ukraine.

As the war continues in Ukraine, the sale of these freight cars could raise concerns about the economic impacts of the conflict, with companies in neighboring regions increasingly affected by instability. The auction also sheds light on how businesses are navigating resource management and capitalizing on assets even in turbulent conditions, reflecting broader economic trends in transportation and logistics in the region.
