The Kremlin sent visiting French diplomats 'to hell'
Russian officials dismissed the peace negotiation proposals brought by French diplomats, indicating a lack of interest in collaboration on Ukraine's situation.
During their visit to Moscow, French President's advisors Bertrand Büchwalter and Emmanuel Bonne emphasized the necessity for Ukraine's European allies to participate in peace talks. However, Russian officials responded dismissively, as stated by a senior European diplomat, indicating their unwillingness to engage in meaningful discussions. Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian president, suggested that European nations are not contributing positively to the peace process and are instead encouraging Ukraine to continue the conflict.
Peskov further elaborated that during the French representatives' visit, no constructive signals were conveyed, leading him to express that they heard nothing favorable. He asserted that Europe is mistaken in their actions regarding their future, criticizing the approach taken towards the war in Ukraine. His comments reflect a broader sentiment of frustration within the Russian administration regarding the lack of support or understanding from European countries, suggesting a deeper divide in perspectives on resolving the ongoing conflict.
Despite the dismissive attitudes from the Kremlin, Peskov indicated that Russia is still hopeful for another round of trilateral negotiations concerning Ukraine. However, he acknowledged that no specific date was set, leaving the future of these discussions uncertain. This continued hope for negotiations juxtaposed with the current hostile rhetoric underscores a complex and tense diplomatic environment, particularly as the war in Ukraine shows little signs of resolution.
