Police: The Estonian man who died in Himosa was likely on vacation in Finland
An Estonian man in his fifties has died after an accident at the Himoks ski resort in Finland, with investigations ongoing to determine the cause of death.
The Internal Finland Police is continuing its investigation into the death of an Estonian man at the Himoks ski resort, reportedly due to an accident. According to Crime Commissioner Veli-Pekka Välisaari, the victim was approximately fifty years old and had sustained injuries consistent with having fallen into a rock face during what appears to have been an unintentional deviation from the designated pathway. The police are conducting further investigations to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Välisaari indicated that it remains unclear whether the fall was precipitated by pre-existing health issues, and an autopsy is planned to explore this possibility. During this examination, authorities will also seek to ascertain if there were any substances in the victim's blood that might have affected his attention or ability to navigate the slopes safely. The accident occurred on a transitional slope that connects the western slopes to the northern ones, providing a crossway with a rocky cliff and wooded hillside above it.
The police have stated that photographs taken from the location suggest that the transitional route and the ski slope were appropriately marked and maintained, raising questions about the conditions at the site at the time of the accident. The outcome of the autopsy and ongoing investigation will play a crucial role in determining the official cause of death and whether any additional safety measures may be warranted to prevent similar incidents in the future at the resort.
