Motorcyclist dies after being hit and dragged by a car on an avenue in Teresina
A motorcyclist was killed after being struck by a car and dragged over 40 meters in Teresina.
A tragic accident occurred on Sunday morning in Teresina when a motorcyclist was fatally struck and dragged by a car along Avenida Frei Serafim. According to the military police, witnesses reported that the motorcycle was stationary at a traffic light when the car approached at considerable speed, colliding with the rear of the motorcycle. The impact caused the motorcycle to be dragged for over 40 meters, further down the road, past the intersection with Rua 19 de Novembro.
The standard protocol for such accidents was initiated, with Sargent Lidiane Rocha from the Traffic Police Battalion (BPTran) confirming the details reported by witnesses. The front of the car was severely damaged from the collision, and, notably, the driver refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. Following the incident, the driver was taken to the Central Flagging Station in Teresina to provide a statement about the crash, while a vehicle from the Legal Medical Institute arrived to collect the motorcycle rider's body.
This incident raises several concerns regarding road safety in Teresina and highlights the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly regarding reckless driving and driving under the influence.
