The attack was claimed by the "Islamic Movement of Right Companions, Ashab Al Yamin," which released a video purportedly showing the explosion of an incendiary device. This new group has previously asserted responsibility for several antisemitic attacks in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Greece. The rise of such extremist groups represents a worrying trend, indicating that antisemitism and radicalism are re-emerging in Europe, prompting authorities to take immediate action in securing Jewish institutions.

Amsterdam's mayor, Femke Halsema, described the explosion as a "deliberate attack against the Jewish community," highlighting the increasing challenges faced by Jewish citizens in the city amid a growing tide of antisemitism.
