Car plunge from the cliff. Tragic death of the young couple
A tragic accident in Cilento claims the lives of a young couple after their car plunges 200 meters off a cliff following a collision.
In a harrowing incident in Cilento, Italy, a young couple identified as Michele Pirozzi, 29, and Maria Magliocco, 24, met a tragic end after their Volkswagen Polo plunged 200 meters from a cliff. The accident occurred on Friday night in Ripe Rosse, Montecorice, when the car collided with a Citroen Jumper van driven by a 42-year-old. Despite being seatbelted, both individuals were ejected from the vehicle as it broke through the guardrail, rolling several times before coming to rest on the rocky seashore.
The circumstances of the accident suggest that Pirozzi lost control of the vehicle prior to the crash, resulting in the catastrophic failure of safety measures designed to prevent such tragedies. After the accident, the Coast Guard spotted the wreckage during a nighttime search operation, but subsequent recovery efforts revealed that there were no survivors inside the completely destroyed car.
Rescue teams, including divers from the Naples Fire Department and specialized alpine and river rescue squads, worked throughout the night to recover the victims. This tragedy not only highlights the dangers of driving in precarious areas but also raises questions regarding road safety and the effectiveness of barriers meant to prevent vehicles from veering off cliffs. Such incidents bring to light the need for enhanced safety measures in high-risk zones to prevent similar accidents in the future.
