Israel is a corridor for migratory birds and has global significance in their protection

Israel plays a crucial role as a migratory corridor for numerous species of birds, particularly white storks, which take a rest here during their journey from Africa to breeding grounds in Europe and West Asia.

In Israel, thousands of white storks are currently passing through, pausing for a brief rest and food replenishment before continuing on their migration from Africa to breeding sites in Europe and West Asia. By the end of the migration season in about two months, an estimated half a million storks—accounting for 80% of the global population of this species—will have traversed the country. The phenomenon is not limited to storks; it also includes hundreds of millions of birds from other species and various mammals, insects, and aquatic animals, all of which highlight Israel's importance as a vital stopover point in the migratory paths of many species.
