Congress issues second list of candidates before Assam elections, announcing 23 nominees

Before the Assam assembly elections, Congress has announced its second list of candidates, revealing 23 nominees.

Ahead of the upcoming Assam assembly elections, the Indian National Congress has released its second list of candidates, announcing a total of 23 nominees. This development shows Congress's increasing preparation as they have now fielded candidates for 65 out of the 126 seats in the Assam assembly. The party has also reserved 15 seats for its allied parties, indicating a collaborative strategy in the elections.

The assembly elections in Assam are likely to occur in April, although the Election Commission has not yet announced the exact dates. Congress is currently leading a coalition of opposition parties, including CPI(M) and the Assam Jatiya Parishad, while CPI(ML) Liberation has also decided to support this alliance. Notably, the Raijor Dal, which was part of the opposition coalition in previous elections, is not participating this time, with its leader, Akhil Gogoi, having won in the last election as an independent candidate.

The announcement of this second list was made by Congress General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal, which includes the re-nomination of three sitting MLAs. This strategic move highlights Congress's efforts to consolidate support and build a strong front against the ruling party in Assam, as they seek to regain political influence in the state amidst challenging electoral circumstances.
