North Korea Fires Multiple Launch Rocket System; Kim Jong-un Calls It a 'Destructive Means of Attack'
North Korea has conducted a military exercise involving a multiple launch rocket system under the supervision of Kim Jong-un, who described it as a potential destructive weapon against perceived enemies.
On February 15th, North Koreaβs state media reported that the Korean People's Army performed a live-fire training exercise involving the launch of a multiple launch rocket system, as supervised by Kim Jong-un himself. A total of 12 units of the 600mm precision multiple rocket launchers were mobilized for this training event. It is also believed that the exercise coincided with the firing of several ballistic missiles that the South Korean military had detected the day before, further escalating tensions in the region.
Kim Jong-unβs daughter was present at the training, and images broadcasted showed a series of projectiles being launched from mobile platforms with all successful strikes landing on an island approximately 364 kilometers away, located in the Sea of Japan. In his remarks, Kim described the rocket launchers as a defensive measure for war deterrence but warned of their potential use as a significant destructive weapon should provocations from enemies persist.
He highlighted that the current capabilities of the launched missiles fall within a range of 420 kilometers, which aligns with South Korean reports indicating the missile testing was specifically aimed at targeting South Korea. This development indicates a significant military posturing from North Korea amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula, raising concerns over regional security and the possibility of escalation in hostilities between the North and South.
