[Breaking News] Lee Jeong-hyun: "It feels shameless, but I will resume my position as the chairman of the nomination management committee"
Former lawmaker Lee Jeong-hyun has announced he will resume his role as the chairman of the nomination management committee of the People's Power party just two days after his resignation, citing a commitment to political reform.
Lee Jeong-hyun, who resigned from the position of chairman of the nomination management committee of the People's Power party, announced on the 15th that he would be returning to the role, despite feeling ashamed about the move. In a statement, he expressed regret over the confusion and concerns caused by his earlier resignation, indicating that he had decided to step down due to difficulties in pursuing electoral reforms. However, motivated by a desire to effect change within the party through the nomination process, he acknowledged that his resignation inadvertently added a burden to the party's situation.
He revealed that the party leader, Jang Dong-hyuk, had requested him to complete the electoral reforms and entrusted him with full authority over the nomination process. Lee emphasized that he does not view this as a power play but rather a necessary response to the current crisis as demanded by the party and the public. He committed to accepting full responsibility for the outcomes of the nomination process, indicating his resolve to not shy away from making necessary decisions amid challenges.
Looking forward, Lee stated that he would boldly change existing practices to meet the public’s standards, suggesting that he plans to foster competition in areas that lack it and to open the political arena wider to young people and experts. He affirmed his intention to move forward with the nomination process with speed and decisiveness, addressing the needs for significant reform and commitment to enhancing the party's electoral strategy.
