"Tatchan" from the WBC championship team visits before the quarter-finals

Lars Nootbaar, known as "Tatchan" from the WBC championship team three years ago, visited the Samurai Japan team before their quarter-final match against Venezuela.

Lars Nootbaar, affectionately nicknamed "Tatchan," visited the Samurai Japan team as they prepared for their quarter-final match against Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic (WBC). Nootbaar, who played as a center fielder during Japan's last championship win three years ago, gained popularity not only for his performance but also for being the first Japanese-American player to join Samurai Japan. Although he was not part of this year's team due to a recent surgery on both heels, his presence was a significant morale boost for the players.

The current Samurai Japan roster includes fifteen players from the previous championship team, and many of them showed their affection and camaraderie by visiting Nootbaar during practice. Notably, Shuhei Ohtani, one of the star players, initially did not recognize Nootbaar until he was called over, subsequently sharing a warm hug on the field, further cementing the team spirit. Such interactions highlight the bond that exists among players, even as they pursue new victories in the tournament.

As the quarter-finals approach, Nootbaar expressed his confidence in the team's abilities and offered his best wishes for a successful match, emphasizing the support he feels for the team despite not being a player this time. This visit serves as a reminder of the importance of teamwork and the legacy the previous championship team created, which continues to inspire current players in their quest for another title.
