Sozoranga-Macará Road Remains Closed Due to Landslides
The Sozoranga-Macará road in Ecuador is closed due to landslides, with cleaning operations currently underway by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) in Ecuador has announced ongoing efforts to clear landslides on the Sozoranga-Macará road, specifically in the Pénjamo area. The ministry shared updates through their social media, noting that the road remains closed, and crews along with machinery are deployed in the region to facilitate the clearing process. A photo released by the MIT illustrated the severity of the situation, showcasing a substantial amount of earth obstructing vehicular passage along the route.
In addition to addressing the Sozoranga-Macará road, the ministry confirmed positive progress in cleaning operations on the El Empalme-Catacocha road, which has since been opened for traffic. They have dedicated equipment, including a front loader, a small loader, and a dump truck, to ensure the thorough cleaning of the roadway. The MIT urged drivers to adhere to precautionary signage and exercise caution while navigating open roads to ensure safety.
The ministry is also tackling similar issues elsewhere in Loja province, specifically on the Veracruz-San Pedro de la Bendita E-50 road, where landslides have necessitated additional cleaning efforts in the Las Chinchas area. Like the El Empalme-Catacocha road, this road is also operational after required maintenance, as reported by the MIT.
