The Permanent Secretary of the Nigerian Ministry of Defence, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, has emphasized the necessity for the Military Pensions Board (MPB) to prioritize the timely payment of pensions to retired military personnel. During his recent visit to the MPB headquarters in Abuja, he highlighted the crucial role the Board plays in safeguarding the welfare of veterans. Pheelangwah insisted that timely pension payments should take precedence over those received by currently serving officers to ensure that veterans receive the support they deserve.

Pheelangwah referred to retired military personnel as a 'valuable national asset', arguing that it is both a moral obligation and a national responsibility to ensure accurate and prompt pension administration.
