Ogre's surprising defeat helped Pärnu Transcom reach the Eesti-Läti league play-offs

Pärnu Transcom secured their spot in the Eesti-Läti league play-offs thanks to a surprising defeat of Ogre by the Latvian University.

On Saturday, Pärnu Transcom's basketball team secured a spot in the play-offs of the Eesti-Läti league after a crucial matchday. Pärnu finished the regular season with an overall record of 11 wins and 15 losses, ending up in ninth place before Saturday’s games. Their advancement to the play-offs hinged on the performance of Latvia's BK Ogre, who sat in eighth place with an 11-14 record and faced the last-placed Latvian University in their must-win game.

In a shocking turn of events, BK Ogre, who had only three wins throughout the season, was unable to defeat the Latvian University at home, losing the match with a score of 106 to 101. This unexpected result allowed Pärnu to surpass Ogre in the league standings as they held a positive record in head-to-head matches against them. Consequently, Pärnu climbed to eighth place while Ogre dropped to the ninth spot, missing out on the play-offs.

In addition to Pärnu, other Estonian teams that qualified for the play-offs include the regular-season winners Tartu Ülikool Maks & Moorits, BC Kalev/Cramo, and TalTech/Alexela. There are still five more games scheduled for Saturday, which will finalize the standings of teams competing in the upcoming play-offs, further intensifying the competitive atmosphere in the Baltic basketball scene.
