Zelenskyy decorates soldiers and families of heroes and grants scholarships to children of fallen journalists
President Zelenskyy honors soldiers and families of fallen heroes while awarding scholarships to the children of deceased journalists on Ukrainian Volunteer Day.
On Ukrainian Volunteer Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy honored the courage and sacrifice of Ukrainian soldiers and the families of fallen heroes by presenting them with state awards. The high accolade of the Gold Star order, which is the highest distinction in Ukraine, was conferred to the families of those who have paid the ultimate price in the defense of their country. This ceremony reflected the national ethos of honoring those who have served selflessly in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Among the decorated were Junior Sergeant Oleksandr Kovalenko, recognized for his bravery from the onset of Russia's invasion, having fought in multiple key locations including Moschun, Irpin, and Zmiinyi Island. He was deeply involved in significant military operations such as the liberation of Kherson Oblast. Tragically, Kovalenko lost his life in action earlier this year, exemplifying the tremendous sacrifice made by soldiers in the defense of Ukraine.
Furthermore, the President also announced scholarships for the children of fallen journalists, highlighting the impact on families that have lost their loved ones during this distressing time. The focus on both military personnel and journalists emphasizes the broad spectrum of sacrifice made in the pursuit of freedom and truth during the ongoing war, reinforcing the Ukrainian commitment to honor the legacy of those who have fallen.
