Buses collide in Helsinki – Window broken
Two buses collided in Helsinki's Toukkola area, causing damage but no reported injuries.
On Saturday afternoon, buses operated by Helsingin seudun liikenne (HSL) were involved in a collision in the Toukkola area of Helsinki. Eyewitness Konsta Martikainen reported that a bus departing from a stop crashed into the rear of another bus ahead of it, breaking the back window of the impacted bus. The collision occurred at approximately 3:50 PM at the northern direction stop of the Kumpula campus, during which passengers were present on the rear bench of the impacted bus, although no injuries were visibly noted.
Martikainen expressed surprise at the incident, noting the presence of many families with children nearby, but he perceived no serious consequences from the crash aside from the damage to the bus. Despite the alarming nature of the accident, he emphasized that nobody appeared to be hurt. Following the incident, representatives from HSL indicated that they had received no reports about the collision and advised inquiring directly with the transportation operator concerning details of the event.
The collision involved a bus operated by Nobina Finland, one of HSL's contractors. Nobina's CEO, Topi Simola, confirmed the occurrence of the accident. As the situation is reported, the focus remains on assessing the incident's implications for transportation safety and the operational response by the involved parties, especially considering the potential risks posed to passengers and bystanders during such events.
