Kordić delighted with the Prime Minister, Smetiško disappointed after the mistake

In the final day of the women's skiing events at the Winter Paralympics in Milan-Cortina, Croatian skiers Lucija Smetiško and Karla Kordić competed but faced challenges, with Smetiško finishing 12th and Kordić 13th in their respective categories.

The last day of the women's skiing program at the Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympics featured a challenging slalom competition with two Croatian representatives, Lucija Smetiško and Karla Kordić. Smetiško competed in the standing category and finished in 12th place, while Kordić, skiing in the visually impaired category, achieved 13th. The event was marked by difficult weather conditions, with fog, rain, and snow adding to the challenges faced by the athletes.

After her Paralympic debut, Kordić expressed that the experience was emotionally intense, particularly feeling nervous before her first run, but felt more relaxed for the second. In her category, the gold medal was won by Austrian skier Veronika Aigner, followed by her compatriot Eline Stary and Slovakia’s Alexandra Rexova. Kordić finished 13th among 16 competitors and skied alongside her guide Iva Hršak, who also made her Paralympic debut. Both women conveyed their delight at their participation and expressed hope that their experiences would encourage others.

The participation of these athletes not only highlights the significant efforts of Croatian representatives at the Paralympics but also underscores the emotional and psychological challenges faced by athletes competing in adverse conditions. Their stories can inspire others in similar situations, fostering a sense of community and motivation within the sports sector, particularly for disabled athletes in Croatia and beyond.
