TikTok Alert Helps Civil Police Find Teen in Risk Situation in Rondônia
The Civil Police in Rondônia successfully located an at-risk teenager thanks to an Emergency Disclosure Request from TikTok.
On the night of Thursday, the 12th, the Civil Police of Rondônia discovered a teenager in extreme risk after receiving an international alert from TikTok. The alert, known as the Emergency Disclosure Request (EDR), is utilized by the social media platform when there is an immediate risk to the life or safety of a user. The specific location and conditions under which the teenager was found have not been disclosed to the public.
Upon receiving the EDR notification, the Civil Police swiftly engaged specialized teams in cyber crimes to take action. Based on the information provided by TikTok, investigators were able to pinpoint the location of the teenager within minutes in a municipality in the interior of the state. The police then contacted the family and ensured the teenager's protection.
This operation was coordinated by the Department for the Combat of Corruption and Organized Crime (DECCO) with the support of the Cyber Crime Response Delegacy (DRCC) and the Technology Laboratory. The successful resolution of this case highlights the importance of social media platforms in assisting law enforcement during critical situations, further emphasizing the role of technology in enhancing public safety and rapidly addressing emergencies involving vulnerable individuals.
