Neoenergia signs agreement with Sport and Brazilian clubs seek energy in the free market

Brazilian football clubs are beginning to migrate to the free energy market, with Sport signing an eight-year contract with Neoenergia for renewable energy supply.

Brazilian football clubs are transitioning to the free energy market, facilitated by companies like Neoenergia. Sport, a club in the national Série B and current champion of Pernambuco, has secured an eight-year contract for 100% renewable energy from Neoenergia. This contract covers their social headquarters, the José de Andrade Médicis Training Center, and the Ilha do Retiro stadium in Recife, projecting a significant cost reduction on electricity expenses.

The financial implications of the deal for Sport are substantial; they anticipate a reduction of up to 31% in their electricity costs over the duration of the contract, which translates to savings of approximately R$ 5.5 million over eight years. The energy volume contracted is set at 152 gigawatt-hours, equivalent to the energy supply for 1,000 low-income households in the same timeframe. This deal indicates a growing trend among Brazilian football clubs toward adopting renewable energy sources to cut costs and promote sustainability.

This initiative follows similar steps taken by Bahia SAF, which estimates savings of R$ 2.2 million on electricity costs by 2030. The growing engagement of Neoenergia in the football sector illustrates a broader movement towards renewable energy solutions within Brazilian sports, setting a precedent for other clubs to potentially follow.
