A dangerous tick-borne virus has recently claimed the lives of eight Lithuanians, primarily affecting the elderly.
In a recent report, it was highlighted that tick-borne encephalitis resulted in eight fatalities in Lithuania, with the majority of victims aged between 60 and 90 years. Although the mortality rate showed a slight decline compared to the previous year, the disease still poses a significant public health threat. In 2025, there were 642 reported cases of tick-borne encephalitis in Lithuania, down from 807 in 2024, indicating possible improvements in disease management or public awareness.
