Kolkata: Clash Between TMC and BJP Workers Before PM's Rally, Many Injured in Stone Pelting
Clashes erupted between TMC and BJP workers in Kolkata ahead of Prime Minister Modi's rally, resulting in injuries from stone pelting on both sides.
Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Kolkata, clashes broke out between workers of the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The violence included stone pelting, with both parties accusing each other of initiating the attacks. TMC claimed that BJP supporters targeted the office of TMC minister Dr. Shashi Panja in the Girish Park area, leading to injuries among TMC workers. In response to the escalating situation, additional police forces were deployed to maintain order.
The BJP, on the other hand, alleged that TMC workers threw stones at their vehicles en route to the Prime Minister's rally, resulting in injuries to several BJP activists. Notably, Tamoghnaigh Ghosh, the president of BJP's North Kolkata district, was reported to be among those injured. This incident highlights the intense political rivalry and hostility between the two parties in the lead-up to a significant political event.
Dr. Shashi Panja condemned the violence, stating that BJP supporters had attacked her residence and that outsiders were involved in the assault. She further claimed that BJP supporters were from buses loaded with stones intended for the attack. This alarming incident raises concerns about the safety of political events and the increasing levels of violence in political discourse in West Bengal, especially as the elections approach.
