Vilmanis scores in AHL match; Tralmaks' game canceled

Latvian forward Sandis Vilmanis scored a goal in an AHL game, contributing to the Charlotte Checkers' victory over the Bridgeport Islanders.

On Friday, Latvian forward Sandis Vilmanis made a notable impact in the American Hockey League (AHL) by scoring a goal that helped lead the Charlotte Checkers to a 3-0 victory over the Bridgeport Islanders. The match was characterized by a strong performance from the Checkers, who maintained control throughout, scoring in each period. Vilmanis' goal came midway through the third period when he skillfully evaded an opponent and fired the puck into the net, marking his third goal in just two games.

In addition to his scoring, Vilmanis showcased his offensive prowess by adding one shot on goal and finished the game with a positive plus-minus rating of +1. Over the course of the AHL season, he has amassed a total of 22 points (11 goals and 11 assists) in 33 games played, underlining his role as a key player for the Checkers as they strive for success in the league.

While the Checkers celebrated their victory, there was disappointment for the Grand Rapids Griffins, another AHL team featuring Latvian forward Eduards Tralmaks, whose scheduled game against the Milwaukee Admirals was canceled due to poor ice conditions. Despite the setback, the Griffins remain strong contenders in the league, leading the Western Conference and boasting 90 points from 56 games, while the Checkers currently sit fifth in the Eastern Conference with 73 points in 57 games.
