Tehran denies damage to Khark oil facilities due to American strikes

Tehran has denied that American airstrikes on the Iranian island of Khark caused damage to its oil facilities, while U.S. officials stated that the attacks did not target oil-related sites.

Tehran has responded to claims regarding the impact of U.S. airstrikes on the island of Khark, asserting that there is no damage to its oil facilities. U.S. officials corroborated this by stating that their military operations were not aimed at oil-related structures. The emphasis from both the U.S. and Iran highlights the sensitive nature of the operations given the island's strategic importance in oil exportation, where around 90% of Iran's crude oil passes through.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced in a statement that the military had executed one of the most significant air raids in the Middle East's history, targeting what he described as all military objectives on Khark Island. However, he clarified that this operation did not involve targeting the oil infrastructure at this time, leaving the door open for potential future attacks if Iranian interventions in the Strait of Hormuz threaten shipping security. The framing of the airstrikes indicates a calculated approach to avoid escalating tensions over oil markets and international shipping.

Khark Island, situated about 30 kilometers from Iran's coast, is home to the country's largest oil export terminal, playing a vital role in its economy by facilitating majority oil oil shipments. The conflicting narratives surrounding the airstrikes illustrate the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, especially regarding military engagements and their implications for global oil markets and stability in the region.
