The Court of Appeals Cancelled the Severe Rent Increases in Lehtisaari, Helsinki – Lawyer: This Has Been Expected for Ten Years

The Helsinki Court of Appeals ruled against significant rent increases for a Lehtisaari housing company, a decision that residents have awaited for a decade.

Jasmin Janné, a deputy judge representing a housing company in Lehtisaari, expressed delight over the Helsinki Court of Appeals decision to reduce the rent the housing company pays to its landowner, the Vantaa Parish Union. This ruling is seen as a monumental relief for Lehtisaari residents, as it addresses concerns that have persisted for a decade. Janné emphasized the decision's importance for local residents who have anxiously awaited changes to their rent structure.

The ruling, while not yet legally binding, suggests that the housing company will not seek leave to appeal it to the Supreme Court, showing confidence in the court's decision. Janné noted that there will still be discussions with the principal before final confirmation but believes that they achieved their main goal of achieving reasonable rent adjustments. The request centered on standardizing land lease terms for the housing company, ensuring fairness regardless of whether the land is owned by Helsinki or Vantaa.

There are a total of ten housing companies located on land owned by the Vantaa Parish Union in Lehtisaari. The court's ruling serves as a strong precedent for these companies and raises hopes among residents that the parish will respect this decision and implement similar measures for other housing entities in the area. As a result, this ruling not only impacts the immediate community but may also influence wider practices regarding land leases in the region.
