Dogs roaming free terrorizing a small village – "No one will dare come here soon"
Residents of Pohja village in Kangasala, Finland, are living in fear due to attacks by free-roaming dogs on multiple occasions since last summer.
In Pohja village, Kangasala, Finland, the local community is experiencing escalating fear due to repeated dog attacks on residents. Since last summer, there have been multiple reported incidents, with six formal complaints lodged with the police between August and February regarding dogs attacking people. These incidents have compelled some villagers to carry makeshift weapons such as axes or garden tools for self-defense, underlining the serious nature of the threat posed by the dogs.
The situation has reached a point where the once lively village street has become eerily quiet, with residents expressing that the fear of dog attacks has driven them to stay indoors. The village, which was once the municipal center of the now-defunct Kuhmalahti, demonstrates signs of decline as the population has decreased significantly over the decades, complicating any community efforts to address the dog issue effectively.
Local authorities, including Crime Commissioner Sami Suhonen from Internal Finland Police, have categorized the incidents as 'leaving an animal unattended' and are taking them seriously. As tensions rise, the village’s ability to foster a safe community environment is in jeopardy, as the fear of dog attacks continues to loom over the residents and affects their daily lives.
