Despite being at an ideal age for endurance athletes and having achieved some of his best results this season, Vuorela feels it is time to move on as he has been stuck at a similar performance level for several years. Vuorela works as a border guard and seems to have reached a limit this past winter, especially after not being selected for the Finnish Olympic team for the Milano-Cortina games. He noted the challenges he faced last year, including being nearly absent from work due to training, which did not yield the results he had hoped for. His decision to retire appears to be influenced by the culmination of various factors, leading him to reassess his future in the sport.

Since the 2022–23 season, Vuorela has not been part of the Finnish Ski Federation's A national team, instead training with a private team called Team Electrofit. Although he has often found himself on the cusp of selection for competitions, Vuorela emphasizes that his retirement is not solely due to competitive pressures but rather a combination of personal circumstances and reflections on his career.
