During his visit to Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate projects valued at approximately 23,550 crore rupees in Silchar. This event marks the culmination of his two-day tour in Assam ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. On the previous day, he had initiated projects worth around 24,250 crore rupees in Guwahati, reinforcing his commitment to infrastructure development in the region.

Modi will also launch the Shillong-Silchar Corridor project, which has a total estimated cost of 22,860 crore rupees. This corridor, which is notable for being the first access-controlled greenfield high-speed expressway in Northeast India, is anticipated to significantly enhance regional connectivity. The 166-kilometer-long four-lane corridor aims to cut travel time between Guwahati and Silchar from 8.5 hours to approximately 5 hours, facilitating swift and efficient transportation.

This initiative is poised to accelerate regional economic development and stimulate trade across the borders, contributing meaningfully to the overall growth of the Northeast region. The launch of these projects is a strategic move by the Modi government to bolster support in Assam and other northeastern states ahead of potential electoral challenges, signalling a focus on infrastructure as a key area of development.
