Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the Delhi government is planning to rename the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC) during a high-level review meeting held with the SRDC board. The meeting focused on discussing the overall development of Old Delhi and the Shahjahanabad area, as well as addressing allegations of irregularities and corruption during the previous government’s tenure. This decision reflects the government's commitment to reform and enhance the operational effectiveness of the corporation.

During the meeting, it was determined that three new proposed names would be prepared for the SRDC, and the final name would be selected later. This initiative indicates the government’s intention to foster a fresh start and possibly distance itself from the past controversies associated with the SRDC. Additionally, the governance structure of the corporation is expected to undergo significant reorganization to improve accountability and transparency.

The meeting also reviewed the Chandni Chowk redevelopment project, which spans from Digambar Lal Jain Temple to Fatehpuri Mosque. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for a comprehensive restructuring and revitalization of the corporation to ensure project progress and accountability, particularly in terms of costs and efficiency. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance urban redevelopment efforts in the historical part of Delhi, known for its rich cultural heritage and intricate infrastructure challenges.
