The suspension of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports has highlighted the fragility of balance in the LNG market, as it involves the disruption of a key pillar of global gas trade in recent years. This comes at a time when markets are still recovering from the impacts of reduced Russian supplies to Europe, facing logistical bottlenecks and rising geopolitical risks. Qatar Energy's announcement regarding the halt in LNG production, following attacks on facilities in Ras Laffan and Mesaieed, has resulted in a sharp increase in gas prices in Europe and Asia, responding to the loss of a source that accounted for roughly one-fifth of global LNG trade.
