Four men have been arrested by the Civil Police in Brazil’s Recife region on suspicion of raping at least six children, including their daughters and stepdaughters. The arrests took place during an operation named "Guardians of Childhood," conducted by the Department of Protection of Children and Adolescents (DPCA). The accused men face allegations of abusing girls and boys between the ages of 5 and 14, indicating a disturbing trend of familial and close-community sexual violence.

One of the accused, who owns a daycare, confessed to abusing a young girl who attended the facility. The operation was launched on October 10, with the details of the crimes revealed in a press conference on October 13. The authorities emphasized that while the cases were publicly announced together, the incidents are unrelated, showcasing the widespread nature of the problem of child sexual abuse in the region.

The operation saw the execution of four arrest warrants across several locations, including Recife, Paulista, and Jaboatão dos Guararapes. The identities of the arrested men have not been disclosed to protect the victims in accordance with the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA). This situation has raised significant concern regarding child safety and the necessary measures that need to be taken to prevent such heinous acts in the future, urging community members and governments to remain vigilant and responsive to the prevention of child abuse.
