Family seeks elderly man with Alzheimer who disappeared in MT after fleeing from shelter

The family of an 82-year-old man with Alzheimer's is searching for him after he disappeared for three days following his escape from an elderly care home in Cáceres, Brazil.

Wilson Corrêa Sampaio, an 82-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer's, has been missing for three days after fleeing from an elderly care home in Cáceres, located 220 km from Cuiabá, Brazil. He was last seen walking just two blocks from the shelter, and no further information regarding his whereabouts has surfaced. Family members fear he might be trying to return to Lambari d’Oeste, where part of his family resides, after expressing feelings of needing to go back to settle matters from his past.

His caregiver, Zenaide da Silva Castrillon, noted that Wilson has been showing increased memory lapses and has been disoriented. His daughter, Thainá Sampaio, shared insight into Wilson's past, revealing he previously owned a farm in Lambari d’Oeste that he sold in 2008. Despite their efforts to locate him in that town, they have yet to find any trace of him.

This incident is not unprecedented, as Wilson has previously left the care facility without permission but was typically found within hours. However, as days pass without any leads, the family grows increasingly concerned for his safety given his condition and the surrounding circumstances of his disappearance.
